Thanks for the ride 2006! Please be kind 2007! So what’s the fuzz several hours before the New Year? Starting with this blog! I finally updated it, reformatted it and planning to be more dedicated to the Republika. From time to time I will have an interview with myself. The interviewer is The Republika's Consul (Ideal self) and I will be the interviewee. Weird! I think this method might actually be more effective in letting out my ideas, thoughts, experiences and feelings in a creative and real way. Aside for being an EBN journal, The Republika also wishes to be an advisor or helper in how to face all the challenges of life. Simply to help souls (inspired by the heroic missions of the Jesuits portrayed in the book-Heroic Leadership by Chris Lowney). Enough about the blog!

This is another thought post.

Man’s desperate need to create order in the chaotic universe. Order governs us all. Try to sit and see the world around us. For half an hour, look at the world in the point of view of an extraterrestrial intelligent life form visiting on earth. What have you realized? Man’s intelligence is set in a direct course to create order in nature. Now morph back to being a human. Open your history book; see that man’s first actions were to create order out of nature by creating cities, farms; concepts such as language, arithmetic, law and order and the sciences; Things such as weighing scales, lists and calendars . Order is unquestionably the very fabric that drives man to tick. Try to imagine if order no longer exists. What if it simply vanishes? Man will simply cease to function. Observe…from a common 5-letter word, we could extract a lot of wisdom form it!

ORDER (Jediism)?

I treat order not just an abstract term but a living force governing the thoughts of man.
GOD IS ORDER.

SO WHAT then?

Order maybe taken for granted but it is the very force that governs man. In our daily lives, do not only strive to be excellent, strive to be one with order because being one with this force puts our place in this chaotic universe.

It was awhile.

The 2nd semester is finally sinking in my thoughts, actions and heart. Life in a new course is not easy. Paradigm shift is to be dealt with in the deepest understanding of the mind because the external world is new that is why i somehow developed this daily meditation thingamajig. Being an Irregular student and squatter at the same time gives me the perfect opportunity to be friends with myself. The beginning weeks of the 2nd semester are quite a reward! I somehow began a phase of self examination because I was always with myself. And you know what I discovered? I discovered that I’m a person who enjoys being alone in the University and at the same time treasures being with others; an introvert and an extrovert in one depending on the need of the situation. Based on what I observed about myself, I seem to be flexible enough not to be deformed.

Bottom line, it is a very essential practice that we are aware of ourselves and check if actions are coming from us or the dark side of us because an unexamined life is not only worth living but also dangerous.

Philosophy Project Note 2

The concept of Work, School and Studies

“Understand the Fundamentals then you can play with things”

Letting your thoughts touch only the roof of a building can’t give you any good at all. In order to understand why the structure is standing we need to go deep in its foundation and then go outwards. This practice of fundamental comprehension is a great tool in accelerating our learning in any field. We simply need to link our personal ideas to the fundamental ideas of the discipline of interest then the rest will smoothly follow.

“Work, Work: God, God”

Work without any concept of God is useless. Work not only for others but work for God. For God is the source, the process and the end of all human endeavors.

Accounting: It is basically an art. It is n art of balancing, analyzing and writing. What drives me to study accounting is the fact that in every event in this world, there is an effect. Every simple digit has a meaning and this simply amazes me! Debit? Credit? What the heck! If you only see the magnificent fundamental concept of accounting which is event and result, it simply assures you that all acts we do in our lives, there is always an effect. Everyday is the product of our thoughts yesterday. Garbe aha na abot ang accounting!?!?!?! Hahahaha

Political Science: “Human beings are political animals”; the immortal words of Aristotle. He is right! Why? Because politics deals with influence, we in one way of another radiate influence to our surroundings. So what is my fundamental thought for Pol Sci? it is the need for me to be informed of the norms and systems man have developed for themselves in order to attain the ideal society. Yup, it somehow reflects on my individuality for my development to the ideal self.

English 34.1: Simply saying, I’m part of humanity and Literature is the extension of human expression and thoughts thus I am obliged to comprehend and appreciate it.

2nd Week

Significant happenings of the week report. It has been a long time since I posted here cz my life is just too fast. This week was the official wearing of the school uniform hence forth. Honestly, I love wearing the uniform with a reason which reason itself can’t understand. Ganahan lng gyud ko. What pisses me off is the fact that my Wednesday is not washday but PE uniform day! Sayang akong mga sanina. Pero that’s ok anyway…

Work/School: I find all my classes interesting, especially PE! PE, I just love moving my body (dancing bah!). In English, I had a fun time tapping the desk trying to analyze a poem’s rhythm. Try this: If you listen to the rhythm of Stopping by Woods on A Snowy Evening, it resembles the galloping of the traveler’s horse. Amazing! Sa accounting, its really funny because si sir kay hilig mag graffiti! His illustrations in the board are full of lego size drawings! Kasabot man sad so ok lng. Pol Sci, my personal favorite! I just like the teacher! Maka in love! Brilliant kayo bai! Si Mrs. Soriano. She will be gone from Dec 2 to 9 cz she will be going to Australia to read a paper in front an international audience! The rest of my subjects are quite ok, nothing to say actually aside that it’s not really that sober.

Others: hmmm… I’m still in the shift gear but now slowly settling to normal. I am really having a great time with the new domain because people are just friendly. I haven’t felt any disturbances in the Force yet, which means I don’t sense any hypocrites around. I still have lots to develop in this new phase of life like: memorizing names, greeting people effectively, contemplative in action… Sus!

Self: My interest about the Star Wars saga is really getting a beat up now a days. I just love the concept of the Jedi thing. It is so Jesuit! So don’t mind me if I keep on saying about the Force. The Force is actually God.

God: God is the Force of All things.

Thought of the Week: “Love everyone or perish” – Morrie

1st week of 2nd sem

Hey! It had been a while since the last post. Lots have happened last week because it’s the 1st week of my SBM life! Erensto B. Neri BSMAcc-1

Work/School: School is fine, even though I’m a squatter. Squatter actually means a person without any solid block. My home block is actually MNH (the only MAcc 1st year block) but we only meet in Filipino and PE (MWF). The blood bath of Accounting 1 has not yet begun but I assure you I will prepare my light saber. The thing is with my schedule is that im actually learning to be flexible. Flexible because per subject has a different composition of personalities and I must deal with it. Good thing that I know people from each block. Especially my RS 15 class because my classmates are my previous classmates last semester. Oh ya! I’m really busy with the SBMSC caroling contest but I’m managing it quite well. The project is on track and all systems are working. I’m even a candidate for an office appointment.

Others: Basically I’m still in the shift gear trying to adjust and explore my new domain. I really felt welcome in the MNH block. Thank God I knew some people and those people made me feel welcome. The hard thing is I’m having a dual citizenship. XA and MNH but I’m forcing myself not label anymore. I’m practicing to find the Golden mean in managing all the friendships of the world. Well as usual, I still have a hard time memorizing their names.

Self: My self hmmm…. Basically the same, but I really making a career out of this live the day to the fullest philosophy. How? I will make sure that in every moment I work at it to the fullest. If I will greet a person, I will greet him/her with more than a smile. When I would help a person, I would help extra…. If I study I study + extra. This practice really brightens up my day. It terms of exercise, Arc and Cha (my new friends) are inviting me to have badminton sessions so I’m a go for it.

Other stuff:

Last Saturday, we broke a school record! 10 people including myself had a road trip inside a small car from our new area work to XU! Grabe! The manifestation of a sardine can.

Ya! Section K CWTS will no longer meet every Saturday because it’s a weekday task for us as day care assistants.

There is one way in earning money big and fast. It is more professional than gambling, it is the stock market. If you even bother to watch business news lately, the Philippine “macroeconomic” situation is positive resulting to the upsurge of the stock market. So what then? Well, I am a registered online member of a stock trading game of the PSE (Philippine Stock Exchange). It is for free and the best part is, you can actually experience how it is to ride the bull of the Market. You can improve your critical analysis of market news, wise decision making in buying and selling stocks, and most importantly familiarize with the best money making institution there is. project philosophy note 1

My philosophy quest resulted to a self-examining quest. Basically it is indeed in the self where we must begin. I asked to myself; what makes me tick? I discovered that 4 things make me tick. It is the belief of a divine being, belief in self, and the love for others and the channel of work. These four components are the pillars of my philosophy. Again it is God, Self, Others and Work. I wish to explain what the heck each one plays and how they actually interplay.

God: It is the ultimate source and end of self, others and work.
Self: My concept of self.
Others: My concept of people aside from myself
Work: Human faculties aimed to help self and others and act as a channel to serve God.

With these identified 4 components, I now have the backbone of my project and in the following posts; I wish I could expound further what each one entails such as self-development, magis, golden mean, friendship, community etc. So bottom line lets 1st examine ourselves and identify the pillars of our lives before we live the new day of the rest of our lives.

the making of a personal philosophy

Last summer, I invested days reading online texts and books about the philosophies of ancient thinkers like Socrates and Aristotle. I hope that I would strike at some nugget of wisdom that would somehow magically crystallize the age all question of: “What is the purpose of life”. For several weeks, I searched the internet, the modern day oracle but still not satisfied. I watched good movies hoping to look for philosophical connections in the plots but still not satisfied. I bought and read books but still not satisfied. I did almost everything in the Teenager’s Guide to Philosophy manual, but to no avail. Then I began to do something that I forgot to do in the whole duration of my quest; I forgot to think. After I exhausted almost every effort in this mind quest this is the thing that I forgot to do; to contemplate and to think deeply. I was so engrossed in reading the contexts of books that I forgot the main faculty that made them write those things. Socrates was right, Philosophy begins with the faculty of wonder and that wonder entails deep thinking and contemplation. So this is the spark where my project began. My project is to simply create my own philosophy based on my experiences of life fueled by my reflection and thinking. I really hope and pray that the people reading this post and up coming posts may also uncover and construct their own personal philosophy. It is really essential to life that we must construct a deep personal principle that would withstand the challenges of time, self and society. So here are the components of my philosophy.

Sitting, talking, crowd controlling, anger management and monitoring. Mao ni ang buhay SBM SV sa enrollment. Very tiring but very fulfilling! Well, for the mean time, I could really say its ok because 1st year sagara pa man… wait till the upper-classmen na ang mag pa-enroll… it won’t just be crisis management ( crowd control plus nepotism mechanism) but we really have to quell a revolution if we do not get the enrollment efficient enough to accommodate their raging emotions. Bottom line: this is all in the day’s work. It is again nice to work not for myself anymore but for something bigger than myself.
Lesson learned: Always smile no matter what

Ogilvie kumustahay 06'

News Bits: The 1st ever Ogilvie kumustahay was held last Oct. 26, 2006! It was a blast, even though the turn-out was less than half of the class. We were about 21 or something at least naa ang mga balik-CDO like Cathie, Chieney and Michael. Aniwei, the organizing committee came to the place 3 hours earlier to prepare the decoration and stuff. Grabe c ed. He prepared the labels and detials ( registration ekek and a program sheet). Nagpalit pa ug pink and white baloons. The party started around 4:30 pm. Nag kumustahay dayun after... a parang formal thing of updating each other... then Games dayun!!! Bibo kaayo ang games... naay cheering (pagka-immoral gamay), patola ekek (pagka-immoral gamay) and mga classic pinoy games... Bibo gyud. Nag disco2x pud... After that, DINNER!!! they served grilled chicken and pork. Then an unexpected song number by Ed and Kating! Bibo... The activity ending was the Truth or dare using the patola as the bottle... unique noh. Oh yea! nag watch pud me ug cute cartoon called the 3 happy friends on Ken's laptop...Very cute characters aside from the fact that they brutally murder and mutilate each other. It was fun! Hehehe. Pagkatapos, grabe ang ulan! down pour gyud. What a nice day being together agian with people i grew up with in high school.

Oi! Pinaka sayo nako na mata! i woke up around 6:30 am for my morning agenda: move my shift papers (ArtScies to SBM). To my disappointment, ugma pa e hatag ang permit to shift! sO ugma na gyud ma lihok. Protocol: Fill permit to shift and approve ekek...then proceed to the Pacts for processing...then SBM... mao ra.

In the afternoon, i attended my 1st SBMsc Meeting (enrollment procedure)with ed being a new SBMsc SV. Congratz ed!. The meeting was all about crowd control and procedural flows for the enrollment. Take note; i not yet enrolled sa SBM pero SBM SV nako! wierd! After that, i made uban ni mikel sa ketkai cz gusto cya magpauban (logical noh hahaha). I became a fashion consultant for about 30 min (hahaha, never happened b4) cz gapangita sa mikel ug sanina for a debut. With mikel natural creative talents, naka decide then cya in what to buy. Oh ye, the ogilvie band went to weng's place to decorate things cz ugma na ang OGILVIE KUMUSTAHAY 2006!

Weekly Review

10 days into sembreak! The week was nothing but significant fun and work! Plenty of things happened ranging from a beach escapade (actually, Chali Beach located at the Industrial suburbs of the city) to an interview, to a Jomi reunion!

SBM-SC interview (Tuesday). The day after the Chali escapade, I woke up looking like a walking over-cooked beefsteak then at around 12 noon I was informed by Dao (A nice and very tall SBM SV guy who recruited me for the SBM-SC) that I will have an interview around 2pm. What the heck, I have to face the top executive panel of the council looking like charcoal. The interview went well. They asked questions like, why I want to join, what are my skills, work ethics. They gave me situational analysis about a hellish workplace etc. Bottom line: I really want to render my service for the council because it’s already part of my nature working for something which is greater than myself like a student org. I guess I did well… Jsan (SBM Pres) will inform me if I pass. After the interview, I had an interesting and long interaction with Rupert (1st year chairman) which lasted for 4 hours! I went home around 7:30pm…

Weng and Maki House Party! ( Wednesday) Maki and Weng went to the house to download and copy a couple of music for their Ipods. It turned out to be a dancing party! Weng, Maki and I danced the “Beep” and several other hot music. Of course, with Louin’s natural talent in the dance floor, we were just blown away by his erotic, ehhemmm… I mean exotic dance moves. What a good way to socialize, at the same time, burn fat! Hahahaha. The “party” ended around 8pm.

SIMS Day ( Thursday) Another character entered the house around 3 pm. The Queen of all queens… Rexa! Her agenda; to play Sims all day long. She played, I watched but she had a hard time practicing her fingers to avoid touching the power button which automatically shuts down the computer. At the end of the day, she played well, giving Rexa (her Sim Character) a decent Disco house. When Rexa was about to leave the house, a dead drunk man laid on the pavement just beside our door! Nakakatatakot! Sa pikas door na lng cyan gi agi.

Jomi Reunion (Friday) Jomi is back! Jomi brought lots of gifts and news about the big world in Ateneo. Flash news: He was the block crush in his English Class! We went to SM (to eat) and the High school to check around and plan for the Ogilvie Kumustahay 2006. At first, I thought it was libre by jomi! Ngee! KKB man diay! Nakauli ko ahat! Maygani naa pa mi XU ato na time. Anyway, we went sniffing around the HS and I manage to go home bringing a copy of the OSASI Five-Year Development Plan Matrix.

Oh yeah! later that day, becky and i formed the "Amo association of naay uwagan na yaya" cz beki's yaya made tanan with a security guard parallel to our yaya who made tanan with a kargador sa Didi's toys. At the end of the day, i look like an over-cooked walking beefsteak...

Thought of the day: 4 steps to achievement:plan purposefully, prepare prayerfully, proceed positively, pursue persistently.

S H I F T (part two)

after spending 8 hours in my family farm ( Kinawe Libona, Bukidnon ), it resulted to another reflection session while facing the mighty mountains of Bukidnon against the strong mountain breeze. Kataw! Sembreak is not just a break for me but it is a transition of thoughts cz im shifting next sem. I'm shifting courses and i keep on repeating this cz its a Big decision that will alter my life! It needs the recollecting the past in order to understand your future while acting now. The list below are the things i picked up in the past that somehow link to my shift to the school of business and management...

Office supplies. Wow! i can still remember that whenever i go to the bookstore as a kid, i would always go to the office supplies. i don't know why but i was fond on looking at paperclips, pens, calendars... wierdo!
Management books section. since i considered national bookstore as a library, i will always proceed to this section of the store. i love scanning at books about how to's... 10 things... manage people...
i even bought a book about team building when i was in 4th year.
The Apprentice. Your're fired! i love that show... i would really sleep late when i was in 3rd year just to watch it and i watched the whole season. Ambot! gakalingaw gyud ko...
Capitalsim II. This is a business simulation game (from retail, stocks, manufacturing, farming, minig, logging). I love this game! i first discovered it in the internet when i was in 2nd year. i then searched all cd stores in cdo. Wala gyud koy nakita! Then that summer, we went to manila. I went to Vera Mall in San Juan just to scan for that CD! Martyr?! and i found it! I love playing it since.
LC Chairmanship. One thing i really enjoyed in this heavy responsibility of being the chairman of Xavier University High School is dealing with ideas, protocols, communication systems, plans, principles, people, resources, programs, implementation, evaluation and organizational structures.... i just love doing it!
Grade School Business. Believe it or not, i sold cheese stick (manufactured by ma'am aunt) when i was in grade 6 (also 1st, 2nd and 3rd year high school ). A class-based business, i really had a hang of it cz i went to the extent at extending my market to other sections! to the extent of creating a demand monitoring system called the "Cheese Stick Composite INdex)!!! hala oi, kataw gyud! i earned naman sad.

LESSON: So my message to those who will shift: Understand yourself, recollect and decide. (pasalamat lng ko na supportive ako parents:-)
